Thirty short pitches you can shorten further
Each one names who is helped and what a useful introduction looks like.
Start the 7-day trial Read the blogThe examples below are shapes, not costumes. Each one names a person already in a situation and the introduction that would help. If you read one and cannot picture a face, it is still too abstract. Replace the role with yours and delete every adjective you cannot prove.
Use them in a weekly minute by picking one example and stopping. Do not tour the list. The room can hold one picture. Thirty pictures is a catalog. A catalog is what you hand someone after they ask, not what you perform while they are still deciding whether to listen.
A referral is a named introduction with an outcome you can check later. If you cannot say who asked, who was introduced, and what happened, you are collecting stories. Stories feel like work at breakfast. They do not tell you whether the room is working. Write the sentence while you still remember the street, the contract, or the deadline. Later you will invent a kinder version, and the kinder version will not help anyone.
Write the record the same day, next to the person, with a direction: given or received. A warm sentence that mixes both directions lets people announce a big week that was mostly incoming. Separate them. You can be generous and still be honest. Add a date. A record without a date becomes a rumor you half believe in March.
Keep status small: logged, in conversation, won, or lost. You do not need fourteen stages to know whether an introduction became work. Add money only when you know the number. A guessed figure teaches the book to lie, and then you defend the fiction at the end of the month. If the work is not finished, say it is still in conversation.
Review for ten minutes before you enter the room, not in the parking lot while you rehearse a performance. Who is waiting. Who deserves a thank-you with a fact in it. Which introduction has been sitting for six weeks. The meeting will hand you new names. It should not be the first time you look at the old ones.
Thank people with a fact. The lease signed, the hire started, the policy bound. Thanks for all you do is a poster. Specific thanks also show you which introductions were real. Send the fact to the person who made the introduction, not only into a group chat where it becomes applause.
Once a month, read the ratio in private. If you only receive, choose three people you can help before the next meeting and do it. If you only give and nothing returns for a year, the ask may be fuzzy or the room may be wrong. Do not turn the ratio into a sermon. Use it to change the next two weeks.
A roster is everyone who shows up. A referral is an event between people. New members do not inherit a fake history. When someone leaves, keep what you passed each other and mark it past. Pretending they are still in the chair makes the next introduction sloppy, because you will describe a person who is no longer there to do the work.
A spreadsheet survives until the note, the date, and the person live in three files. Then Thursday review becomes a chore and you skip it. A contact book keeps the referral on the relationship. Rolodex is one way to do that. It can wait until you have ten real records. Start with the sentence. Move the sentence when paper fails you.
Fill the group's paper slip if they use one, and copy the same words into your book. Two truths will diverge by Friday. The slip satisfies the room. The book satisfies you in March, when you cannot remember why you promised a call. One sentence in both places is enough. A novel in neither place is how referrals die politely.
Pick one stalled introduction this week and ask a plain question: did you two speak. Do not add a new tool, a new color code, or a new meeting with yourself. The stalled note is the curriculum. If they have not spoken, ask whether the introduction is still welcome. Close it if it is not. Open loops feel like responsibility and behave like fog.
This week, do the smallest version of “30 elevator pitch examples.” One person, one sentence, one date, then stop. A longer outline is not more practice. If the sentence could be sent to a stranger, rewrite it until it could only be sent to them.

FAQ
How often should I review this?
Before the meeting and for ten minutes on Friday. More than that is often organizing instead of writing. Less than that and the book is decoration.
What if the group already has a form?
Fill it in. Then copy into your own book the part you must do. Their form proves you attended. Your book proves you remember.
Can I do this on paper?
Yes, if the paper has a name, a direction, and a date. An app matters when the paper no longer fits and you are still making promises.
Is Rolodex affiliated with these groups?
No. Rolodex is independent. Named organizations are trademarks of their owners. There is no endorsement or affiliation, and we do not use their logos.
